This is Barrie's very popular first novel, published six years before Peter Pan, in a limited edition of 550 of which this is No. 385. Original blue cloth HC with gilt decoration and spine lettering and 18 beautifully detailed etchings by Hole; 232 heavy-paper pages with deckle edges. Several pages are uncut. This copy is unique for its front free endpaper which has a six line, unpublished, handwritten poem in which Barrie describes the changes in his penmanship over the years accompanied by five signatures. The poem, which was probably written in irongall, is not inscribed and is definitely in long hand, not printed. Tips have been bumped and worn to the boards, minor chipping to spine ends and slight wear to spine edges and cover in these past 110+ years; but over all this copy is very attractive, its interior clean and bright. Not many opportunities at hand to acquire a genuine unpublished Barrie poem! ; 10 1/4" H X 7 1/4" W; 232 pages
